Recall length and measurement error in agricultural surveys

چکیده

This paper assesses the relationship between length of recall and nonrandom error in agricultural survey data. Using data from LSMS-ISA surveys Malawi Tanzania, we show that key input output variables are systematically related to period, indicating presence measurement error. With longer periods, farmers report higher quantities harvest, labor fertilizer inputs. Farmers list fewer plots as period increases. We argue it is plausible over-estimate plot-level outcomes – inputs while also they forget some their more marginal memory decays due periods. find evidence common measures productivity. The size effect typically varies 2 5 percent per additional month length, making its impact on reliability indicators, including SDG indicator 2.3, economically significant. affecting policy effectiveness, improving quality remains an important concern, especially light ambitious 2030 agenda reflected Sustainable Development Goals. Mainstreaming objective where possible reducing risk through shorter periods appear be promising avenues improve surveys.

Methods for investigating measurement error in cetacean line-transect surveys

Line-transect estimates of abundance generally assume that distances and angles to animals are measured without error. Biased distance measurements will lead to corresponding bias in abundance estimates. Efforts to address this have been made, but measuring distance to cetaceans at sea remains problematic. Four distanceestimation experiments were conducted to explore relationships between estim...

Development and validation of the Memory Performance Index: reducing measurement error in recall tests.

BACKGROUND The Memory Performance Index (MPI) quantifies the pattern of recalled and nonrecalled words of the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease Wordlist (CWL) onto a 0 to 100 scale and distinguishes normal from mild cognitive impairment with 96% to 97% accuracy. METHODS In group A, 121,481 independently living individuals, 18 to 106 years old, were assessed with the C...

TESTING FOR AUTOCORRELATION IN UNEQUALLY REPLICATED FUNCTIONAL MEASUREMENT ERROR MODELS

In the ordinary linear models, regressing the residuals against lagged values has been suggested as an approach to test the hypothesis of zero autocorrelation among residuals. In this paper we extend these results to the both equally and unequally replicated functionally measurement error models. We consider the equally and unequally replicated cases separately, because in the first case the re...

Measuring response errors in censuses and surveys through reinterview data having a different measurement error variance

1. Introduction Reinterviews have been extensively used as a tool for estimating and reducing response errors in censuses and sample surveys. By response error it is meant any error occurring at the data collection stage for a variety of reasons. Errors may be due to the respondent, to the interviewer, or to both. Such errors can never be completely avoided and, therefore, in the practice of ce...
